Case Reports

Case reports introduced here are for the public to understand what kinds of clinic conditions the Traditional Chinese Medicine (acupuncture) can help, and how fast and how good the results are. It is not for a discussion or sharing our clinic experience with the acupuncturist for how and why we use such therapies. If the reader is an acupuncturist and wants to have a professional skill update, the reader is welcome to visit our “Advance TCM class” version in this website. It is impossible and no need for us to list all of our cases here. If readers want to know if your own condition can be help by the TCM or not, you should know that, whatever reason brings you to your family doctor should also bring you to a TCM doctor.

Michele B. male, 47 ys. (Wetaskinwin). Left neck pain for two weeks.

Michele came to us with more problems. He has hot feeling, hot in the hands and feet but has no sweat or dry mouth. He has bowel movement once every three to four days. We gave him acupuncture and herbal therapy (the first visit on January 22, 2008), by using Sini Tang and herb Rougui. On the second visit (January 29, 2009), he reported much less neck pain, reduced hot feeling, and easier bowel movement. The treatment was continued. On the third visit (Feb. 05, 2008), the neck pain disappeared. With additional 4 to 5 times of treatment with herb Jiawei Xiaoyao San, the hot feeling also dramatically diminished.

Comment: More western people than Chinese feel hot in the body and wish to drink ice-cold water. It is not a normal body condition. This client came for the problem of neck pain but usually we also solve the hot feeling for him.

Michael B. male, 36 ys. Edmonton. Stiff nose, running nose for two weeks.

Michael suffered from running nose, stiffness in nose for two weeks. However, he has such allergic reaction again and again for many years. Beside this problem, he has also problem of irritable bowel syndrome. He came to us on June 13, 2007 for the first visit for the nose trouble. He was given acupuncture and herbal therapy. The herbs used was Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Tang. On the second visit (June 16, 2007), his nose problem has been well under control. During the July, his condition has been recurred for 2 to 3 times. So later we asked him to come for a maintenance with the aim to change the body constitution, not to let the body so sensitive to the environment stimulation. Now for the later two years, he followed our recommendation and his condition is under much control.

Comment: For allergic reaction, the control of the symptoms is not so difficult for either western medicine or Chinese medicine. However, it is challenge for both medical system to really stop the reaction for future life. This can be done with the Chinese medicine, but no way for western medicine at all. We normally recommend people come to use for a maintenance treatment once every month, then once every two months, then once every three to four months… make sure that the body condition is improving upon much stable to so called allergen stimulation.

Linda L. female. 35 ys. Edmonton. Shoulder pain for many years.

She has much less anxiety and less craving feeling. The treatment has been repeated. On the third visit at Nov. 24, 2006, the craving feeling has reduced to once at night only. After continuous twice treatments, all symptoms gone.

Comment: Chinese medicine is very effective in the treatment of anxiety and craving feeling. It woks very quick for craving for food, followed by for cigarette, then alcohol. We have lots of such success cases.

Ann B. Sherwood Park. Alberta. Anxiety, hot feeling, poor appetite, frequent urine for many years.

Ann came to us for the first visit at Oct. 27, 2007. She was given acupuncture treatment and Ganmaidazao Tang. On the second visit at Oct. 29, all of the symptoms has been well reduced. Due to traveling out, she wouldn’t be able to come for the second visit until Aug. 29. The pain remains but mostly narrowed to shoulder only. The acupuncture was followed, and we have also used herb Gegen Tang to her. The pain completely diminished.

Later on May 27, 2009, she got pain in the out side of the her left thigh, which was more severe on stand but released after little walk. Acupuncture was gain used. On the second visit on the next day, the pain is released. After additional twice treatments with acupuncture, the pain completely went away.

Anna feels pain in her right side calf muscle for a long times. It has happened before and this is the third time she felt the same pain. The pain became severe upon moving and walking. On his second visit at Dec. 22, he reported much improvement on the sour on shoulders. There is only slight sour on the shoulder bladder area. The treatment was repeated. On his third visit at Dec.29, all problem was gone.

Comment: There are more and more people with such computer syndrome. Acupuncture works very well for such conditions. If the practitioner knows how to use herbs, the effect is much fast and pronounced. One of the most effective herbs is Gegen Tang.

Tu A. Edmonton, Alberta. Acne for many years.

Tu has acne for many years with pus spots on his face. We used mostly herbal therapy for him. It has been taken five times of treatment within 5 weeks to make the acne disappear.

Comment: Chinese herbal therapy works very well for acne. Teenagers don’t need to suffer from such problem for a long time.

Syed A. Edmonton, Alberta. Lower back pain from time to time.

Syed came to us at Nov. 11, 2008. He suffered from lower back pain from time to time for several days without apparent release. We used acupuncture and herb Mahuang Tang for him. On the second visit at Nov. 14, his pain has been largely reduced.

Comment: Many people suffer from lower back pain without clear reasons. In our experience, acupuncture plus herbal therapy at the same time works much faster for the treatment. Ice patch use should be absolutely forbidden, since it will make the condition into a chronic status, though the patient may feel kind of release of the pain at that short time of period. The herbs used should belong to warm herb that improve the blood circulation, not the herbs that work for removal of blood stagnation.

Sharon A. Edmonton, Alberta. Neck pain from about 15 to 20 years.

Sharon suffered from the neck pain for so long time. She came to us at Sept. 19, 2008. Again, we used acupuncture and herb Gegen Tang for the treatment. After the treatment, she was given Jiawei Xiaoyao Wan and Longdan Xiegan Tang to continue at home. On the second visit at Dec. 12, the over conditions had been much improved. Only problem was poor sleep. After additional 4 times of treatments, all the condition became stable.

Comment: for such symptoms, western medicine examination may find nothing wrong so no any treatment can be given. Chinese medicine is very good to solve such “no solid evidence” illness. Also, the TCM is very good for the treatment of poor sleep.

May A. Ft. McPherson. Lower back pain for 11 years.

May has lower back pain and pain on the left arm for 11 years. She came to us at Aug. 08, 2008. Acupuncture and herbs (Guizhi Fuzi Tang) has been given to her. The tear nearly stops and the skin psoriasis lesion is much improved. The further improvement can be seen on the second (Oct. 10) and the third treatment (Oct. 12). She was given acupuncture and herbs (Gegen Tang) on the first visit. On the second visit (Sept. 22), overall condition has been much improved. The nose is no long so much stiff, the headache disappears. Only the lower back pain remains. Acupuncture and the herbal therapy continued. On the third visit (Sept. 27,2008), nearly no any symptoms.

Comment:Acupuncture works very well for the choric sinusitis. We have lots of such cases.

Michael R. 42 ys male. Edmonton. Early wake-up for long time.

Michael complains early wake-up, which has been for many years due to day-night job shift. He can sleep only for one, or three hours per night and feels hard to fall into sleep again. Her tongue is dark red in color with slight tongue covering (white). The pulse feels pretty normal. She is diagnosed as Yang Qi stagnation with floating Fire inside. With drinking our TCM herbal tea, Chaihu jia Longgu Muli tang (plus Shanzhuyu), together with acupuncture on her first visit to us (Sept. 09, 2009). She is given herb Weishuning to take at home.

Comment:TCM is very effective in the treatment of emotional disorders, such as anxiety, depression, easy to get upset, phobia feeling, etc. The client has also a menopause syndrome (hot flash and sweat, depression). The herb used (the Chaihu jia Longgu Muli tang) is very effective for these symptoms. Since the herb formula also contained Longgu and Muli, the herbs that are good at reduce acid production in stomach, so the whole healing is very effective within three visits.

On the second day, all of the symptoms were much released and he drunk only 3 bottle of liquor. On the third visit, he only drunk one bottle of wine per day. He stop the treatment for worry of financial situation.

Comment:Traditional Chinese medicine, especially the herbal therapy, works very well in the release of addition conditions. It does not only work to release the symptoms, but also allow the person to stop the addition for a pretty long time. This is because the fact that the herbs also work on the emotional level of the body, so to make the person not be so emotional. Surely to turn such person to a normal one, his surrounding environment has to be also changed. He needs normal jog, personal relationship, love, as well as the spiritual believing system that encourages his living. Medical treatment is only part of the means to help the person.

Comment:Acupuncture works well to release the sour and pain in the shoulder/neck. However, the person must reduce the stress to the shoulder by reducing the lifting material, or typing computer, etc. Otherwise the release of the pain is only temporally.

On the second visit at February 05, 2008, the pain and sour in shoulder were much improved. He then told that he had pain and discomfort in the joints. Additional three times of treatment released the pain in the joint dramatically.

Comment:it is quite common that the client tells us his problem that bothers him mostly at the first visit. Along with the improvement of the initial problem, they start to declare more symptoms in the body. This is not good way to work with TCM doctor. We always remind our clients not trying to induce doctor to whatever problem the client himself wants to solve, but tell the body condition for whole body. The doctor should dominate what to do first and what next. For a long run, this works much better for the client for a correction diagnosis in TCM, and for saving money and time.

She also had bloating feeling in abdomen after eat. After additional acupuncture together with herbs, all of these symptoms were also much improved.

Usually, if there is pink color on the skin around the acupuncture needle on the body back acupuncture point, the healing effect from the acupuncture is very good.

Ronald C. Edmonton, Alberta. Pain in the left knee and ankle for two and half years.

Ronald came to us at Aug. 03, 2007. We used acupuncture for him. On his second visit the next day, the pain was reduced to only a tightness feeling on the knee and ankle. Such feeling remained on his third visit. With additional three times of treatment with the use of herb Guishaozhimu Tang (he has hot and sweat), the pain diminished. The tightness feeling remained no additional change. This was believed due to surgery on the knee. He claimed that there has been twenty one (21) times of surgery on his knee!!

comments:so many times, we find that if the surgical therapy wouldn’t solve the physical problem for the patients, the remaining pain or tightness feeling is difficult for acupuncture as well. Probably it is because the scar tissue built in the lesion area, or the meridian pathway has been changed by the surgical operation.

Ebenezer C. Edmonton, Alberta. Pain in the right shoulder for several weeks.

Ebenezer came to us at May 13, 2009. We used acupuncture and herb Mahuang Tang (plus Yiyiren and Changzhu). On her second visit at Aug. 11, she complained pain again. The treatment repeated and on her third visit at Aug. 14. The pain all went away.

Comments: the acupuncture treatment should be repeated once a day, or at least once every two to three day. Too long time interval between the next treatment, say, more than one week, usually do not yield a satisfied healing result. For a long run, having acupuncture once for a long time period waste money and time of the clients. We usually recommend our client has frequent acupuncture in the beginning, then along with the improvement of the symptoms, starts to prolong the interval between the acupuncture treatments.

Readers might feel very tired upon read to the end of the case report. I feel also tired to type out, even some of the case reports of us. I feel that it is not needed to show all of the clinic healing effects of us. If the reader never tried acupuncture, it is better try once so you know what IS acupuncture and how GOOD it is, rather than to enjoy the words in the internet. Always remember: come to try acupuncture, if your western medicine tells you that you may need life-long drug taking; that you need a surgery; that there no way from the doctor to help you. Though each acupuncture practitioner IS different, you still need to try. This should be a life experience so that you “know” what the acupuncture means when you chat with your friends in future.
