The Overwhelming or deficiency of the Qi and Blood

Though we talk about the various organs in the body, all of the organs can be simplified or summarized into only two factors: the Qi and the Blood. Readers should be careful to study the meaning and the significance of the Qi and Blood in the body.

If the Qi is overwhelming, it will create Fire. If the Fire is overwhelming, it will deplete the Yin (the liquid part, or the material part of the body). The herbal formula created by Master Zhang Zhongjing, such as the Rensheng Baihu Tang, the San Huang Shigao Tang, are the herbs to deplete the Fire so to save the Yin. The herbal Shaoyao Gancao Tang, Huanglian Ajiao Tang, are to save the Yin by moist therapy; Siling Huashi Ajiao Tang, Liuwei Dihuang Tang are to save the Yin by supplying more water.

If the Qi in the body is not enough, e.g. in a deficiency condition, there will be Cold condition in the body. If the Cold is overwhelming, the Yang Qi will be declined. The Master’s herbal formula, such as Si Ni Tang, Hui Yang Yin, are to save the Yang by warming up the meridian. The herb Lizhong Tang, Gancao Ganjiang Tang, is to save the Yang by Warming up the middle part of the body. Mahuang Fuzi Xixin Tang, Zhenwu Tang are to save the Yang by warming up the kidney. Later great doctors saved the Yin by nourishing more Yin. They are learned from the Renshen Baihu Tang to moist the Dryness to save the Yin. It is to treat the condition with overwhelming of Qi.
